Job description:


The Embassy is a dynamic workplace handling Danish political, economic, trade and cultural interest as well as consular affairs.


As a Consular Officer, you will join the Consular Department of the Embassy. We provide help and assistance to Danish citizens in the UK and non-Danish citizens wishing to visit or move to Denmark.

You will be part of the team processing visa applications for Denmark. The Embassy is a regional visa hub, meaning we process Schengen visa requests from applicants in the UK and 22 other countries. You will play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and effective visa application process.

As soon as you join the team, you will receive intensive training in processing visa applications, which will allow you to quickly take on responsibilities in the team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Visa case processing
  • Conducting applicant interviews
  • Responding to enquiries from applicants via email and telephone
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations

In your daily functions at the Embassy, you will report to the Head of the Visa Section.


Professional and social skills


We value the following skills:

  • An educational background of relevance to the described duties (minimum A-levels, maybe Bachelor or equivalent vocational training). If you only have A-levels, you will need to have longer relevant work experience in lieu of educational background.
  • Relevant work experience includes in an administrative, office or customer service role.
  • Language skills: fluent in written and spoken English. Additional languages are seen as an asset.
  • Experience with Schengen visa case handling and knowledge of the Schengen visa handling system is not needed (you will receive training here), but will be an added advantage.
  • IT literate with the ability to adapt well to new systems.
  • A strong sense of responsibility and thoroughness.
  • High integrity and the ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Cross cultural understanding and good interpersonal skills.
  • Clean criminal record is a pre-requisite.

Employment conditions


We offer a 37 hours working week.


The employment will be in accordance with the salary scale for locally employed staff at the Embassy. The salary scale is net of average British income taxation (if applicable) and includes the employees own NIC-contribution and with the following specifics: the salary £2,154. In addition, possibly allowance for special qualifications/functions. The salary includes 25 paid days of holiday per year.


Employment with the Embassy is subject to security clearance by the Danish Authorities.
