Heat Networks for Social Housing

The Danish Embassy organised a seminar called Heat Networks for Social Housing on 5 October 2017 at the Embassy in London. The event was open to Local Authorities and Housing Associations and around fifty people attended. Fuel poverty and heating costs are important issues for tenants and social housing providers. This free seminar aimed to help social landlords improve the heating efficiency of their housing stock. The event offered insights to the practical ways for new and existing estates to reach low and zero carbon using heat networks (district heating), bringing in the experience of Danish companies as well as UK examples.

The seminar covered:

- The creation of dedicated schemes on site and how their development can be financed, plus the proposal that social landlords should be able to more easily access the £320m Heat Networks Investment Project (HNIP).

- Metering and billing - what is happening to the Regulations, and how the data can help find operational efficiencies.

- How there are still resources left in the Energy Company Obligation, with information from a leading energy supplier.

- Relevant policies and heat technologies such as co-generation, biomass and heat pumps.

List of speakers below:
- Rasmus Traberg, Danish Embassy - Welcome to the Danish Embassy
- Ian Manders, Danish Embassy - Introductions and what people want out of the day
- Rufus Ford,  Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) - The UK Government’s investment in heat networks [district heating]
