Communications Officer

The Embassy of Denmark in London is recruiting
for a part-time Communications Officer to support the Public Diplomacy, Culture
and Communications (PDK) department. 

Job Description

The department works with a wide variety of tasks and topics to further Danish interests in the UK, strengthen British knowledge of Denmark and Danish values as well as secure a good dialogue with decision-makers as well as citizens.


To this end the department produces a variety of external communications content. In your day-to-day you will source and produce stories for the Embassy social media (@denmarkinuk) alongside longer-form bespoke video and graphics content. You will cooperate with staff from all departments to commission and produce interviews or features highlighting some of our best stories and bring new ideas to the table yourself.


As life returns to its pre-pandemic state we will once again incorporate physical events into our wider diplomacy and communications efforts. You will play a key role in covering and documenting these events, producing content before, during and after and liaising with hosting colleagues on the best coverage strategy. For events coverage expect light evening and weekend work as well as practical and administrative tasks related to these events.


The essentials:

  • Fluency in Danish and English, speaking and writing
  • A background in Journalism or Communications
  • An accurate, captivating and accessible writing style
  • Experience in content creation for social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn)
  • Experience with filming, editing and photography (no specific software requirements)
  • An insight and interest in Danish and British politics
  • Experience with Culture-related projects

This role would suit a Journalism or Communications graduate with video training.



The role will be 18.5 hours per week, the timing of which will be decided between yourself and the head of department. Terms of Employment follow British legislation and the Embassy Staff handbook. The employment will be in accordance with the salary scale for locally employed staff at the Embassy. The salary scale is net of average British income taxation (if applicable) but includes the employees own NIC-contribution and with the following specifics: A salary of 1.175 £/ month. Depending on the candidate´s qualifications, an additional allowance can be added. The salary includes 12,5 paid days of holiday per year, and the candidate may choose to become part of the Embassy’s pension scheme where the employees and Employer each contribute around 5 percent. The candidate must pass security clearance by the Danish authorities prior to employment.
