Political officer

 

Political Officer at the Danish Embassy in London From 1 May 2024 or asap thereafter.

The Political and Economic Department of the Danish Embassy is looking for a new colleague in the position as Political Officer. The Political and Economic Department works to represent Danish interests on a broad range of topics defined by current developments in key domestic and foreign policy issues in the UK such as NATO and global security, energy security, human rights, migration and much more. We work closely with partners in Whitehall, think tanks and research environments in the UK to promote bilateral cooperation and understanding on domestic and foreign policy questions. As Political Officer you will be responsible for a number of domestic and foreign policy areas in the department.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

  • Analysis and reporting to relevant governmental actors in Denmark on a number of issues within foreign and security policy, relations between the EU and the UK, economic developments as well as broad public policy areas at the intersection between Danish and UK interests. Your exact portfolio will depend on your expertise and areas of interest.
  • Outreach and network building in the UK to support Danish Government interests and bilateral cooperation.
  • Planning and implementation of Danish high-level visits to the UK.

 

Profile and qualifications

 

  • Ability and flexibility to deal with different policy agendas depending on political priorities in Denmark and the UK.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to manage relations with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong interest in current affairs and general public policy as well as foreign and security policy
  • Knowledge of British and Danish political systems and issues.
  • It’s a precondition that the applicant is proficient in one of the Scandinavian languages. Knowledge of Danish culture and langue is an advantage.
  • A do´er with the desire to find solutions and results.
  • Motivated by working for the Danish government. An advantage with demonstrated relevant work experience.
  • Hold a relevant master´s degree.
  • Well-versed in MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint etc.)

Employment conditions

 

We offer a 37 hours working week.

 

The employment will be in accordance with the salary scale for locally employed staff at the Embassy. The salary of £2650/month is net of average British income taxation (if applicable) and includes the employees own NIC-contribution. In addition, there is a possible allowance for special qualifications/functions.


The salary includes 25 paid days of holiday per year, not including Bank holidays.
