Trine Hahnemann (right), author of The Scandinvian Cook Book
, teaches host Sue Perkins (left) all about the history of 'Sønderjysk Kaffebord' in Episode 6 of The Great British Bake Off. The crew of The Great British Bake Off was invited to the Ambassador's residence in the Embassy building on Sloane Street where they got to taste all of the wonderful cakes.
'Sønderjysk Kaffebord' is almost only to be found in Northern Schleswig (Sønderjylland) - the southern part of Jutland in Denmark. The name translates into a 'Southern Jutlandic Coffee Table' and is basically a cake feast. Traditionally the selection of cakes consists of 7 soft cakes, 7 dry cakes and 7 hard cakes. There is also one other very important rule: you must taste all of the cakes!
Episode 6 will be shown on Wednesday 10th of September, 8 PM on BBC1.
