BBC Proms, the world's greatest classical music festival, take place from 19 July to 14 September 2019, and there will be two performances of the Danish conductor Thomas Dausgaard during the festival.

Dausgaard is Chief Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Chief Conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Music Director and Principal Guest Conductor of the Seattle Symphony, Honorary Conductor of the Orchestra della Toscana (ORT) and Honorary Conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, having previously served as its Principal Conductor from 2004–2011. He is renowned for his creativity and innovation in programming, the excitement of his live performances and his extensive catalogue of critically-acclaimed recordings.

Prom 19: Strauss, Schumann & MacMillan is the first concert Dausgaard conducts, and it will take place 2 August. From the glow of Strauss’s sunrise to the blaze of a torturer’s fire in Sir James MacMillan’s The Confession of Isobel Gowdie, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra explores the gamut of the human experience. Alexander Melnikov is the soloist in Schumann’s bravura Piano Concerto.

Prom 20: Pekka Kuusisto and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra is the second of Dausgaard's two concerts, and it takes place 3 August. Violinist Pekka Kuusisto traces the evolution of Finland’s classical tradition, from improvised folk beginnings to the sophisticated brilliance of Sibelius’s Violin Concerto. The concert closes with the Sibelius’ nature-inspired Fifth Symphony.
