Held each August, the Presteigne Festival has become a focal point for those seeking musical nourishment and artistic discovery in the beautiful surroundings of the Welsh Marches. And this year, the concert programme features a rare insight into Danish music.

The Copenhagen based Nightingale String Quartet  will perform at Presteigne on 26 and 27 August with works by Rued Langgard, Edward Gregson and Franz Schubert, David Matthews, Vagn Holmboe, Ludwig van Beethoven. In 2011 the quartet received Léonie Sonnings Music scholarship, Jacob Gades scholarship as well as the Odd Fellow scholarship. As the recepient of the prestigious 'Critic's Artist Prize 2013' Nightingale String Quartet appeared as soloist with Tivoli Symphony Orchestra in July 2013. In 2014 Nightingale String Quartet was named Gramophone "Young artist of the Year", as the first ensemble in the history of the prize.

On 29 August, the talk Danish Music since Nielsen will introduce the major currents in Danish classical music from the start of the 1930s, following the death of the country’s iconic composer, Carl Nielsen, up to the present day, and offers an engaging introduction to some of its most vital and distinctive figures.

Also, there are works by Carl Nielsen Hans Abrahamsen, Vagn Holmboe, Langgaard, Nielsen, Poul Ruders and Bent Sørensen

several pieces by Carl Nielsen, Bent Sørensen, Hans Abrahamsen will be performed at different concerts at the festival.
