The Danish art collective SUPERFLEX has been commissioned to transform the renowned Turbine Hall at Tate Modern and they have done so with their imaginative installation called One Two Three Swing!

When you enter the hall you are met by a huge, swinging pendulum with a thick, comfortable and multicoloured carpet underneath that invites you to lie under the pendulum. The colours of the carpet are inspired by the new British banknotes. The installation also features 22 large three-seater swing sets along with a small factory for producing new swings. Each section are highly interactive, and the idea is that people of all ages can have fun while contemplating larger issues of our modern world.

Considering that the Turbine Hall has been a space where the most memorable and acclaimed works of art have been unveiled, as pieces by renowned artists such as Louise Bourgeois and Anish Kapoor, the fact that Danish SUPERFLEX has been comissioned for the 2017 installment is a remarkable achievement.

SUPERFLEX are best known for their playfully subversive installations and films. Subjects like migration, alternative energy and the power of global capital are just some of the motives behind the highly engaging, visual and often humorous work of Danish art collective.

Referring to their works as tools, the collective engage alternative models for the creation of social and economic organisation.

SUPERFLEX are based in Copenhagen and was founded in 1993 by Danish artists and Bjørnstjerne Christiansen, Jakob Fenger and Rasmus Nielsen. They have gained international recognition for their projects and solo exhibitions around the world and are represented in several public art institutions, such as MoMA, New York; Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane; Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark; FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais; and Coleccion Jumex, Mexico City.

The One Two Three Swing! installation at the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern in London will be exhibited from 3 October 2017 to 4 April 2018.
